Am I really in Québec City? Or have I been transported to Eastern Europe without knowing it? Well no, I am definitely at Quebec City’s Colisée right in the middle of a really entertaining game between Czech Republic and Belarus. Yet, everything seems different from the last time I came to this arena. I don’t recognize the Colisée which has been completely metamorphosed for the occasion and lots of strange fans are gathering around us. They whistle after bad calls from the referee, play drums all game long and are dressed from head to toes in the colours of their nation. This has obviously nothing to do with what we are used to see in our arenas.
In fact, this is exactly what the 2008 IIHF World Championship is all about. A true melting pot of different cultures which gathers hockey fans from all over the world. It is therefore a unique occasion to have a change of scenery close to home and to enjoy a hockey game of NHL level. There are only some days left to enjoy this international event so don’t wait!
