Discover Montreal

Montreal, spring 2009

Here we are in Montreal, an area with close to 4 million inhabitants making it easily the most populated region of Quebec in spite of its small size. You can definitely find something for everyone in Montreal whether you are looking for ethnic restaurants, unconventional bars, hip boutiques or churches of all denominations. Each area of Montreal will make you discover a notable attraction or a bit of the city’s great history.

Cultural Districts

MontréalBegin by visiting downtown Montreal and marvel at the many works of art at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, enjoy the food and the exoticism of Chinatown and see the Canadiens hockey team in action at the Bell Centre. As for the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district, take some time to discover the Biodome, the Botanical Garden and the famous Olympic park which hosted the Games in 1976. And you will surely not want to miss the Saint Joseph’s Oratory, a renowned place of pilgrimage in Mont-Royal.

Nightlife

Montreal is recognized as one of the most vibrant city when the sun comes down. Start your night at the glamorous Casino de Montréal if you are feeling lucky or go from bars to bars on the trendy Saint-Denis Street. And if you are looking for a more quiet night, make a stop at the Cinerobotheque, a high-tech centre offering more than 9500 films that are part of the NFB collection or spend an evening with your favourite stand-up comedian at Théâtre Saint-Denis.

Historic districts

MontréalFinish your tour of Montreal in beauty by walking around Old Montreal and the Old Port. Once there, take the time to visit Pointe-à-Callière which will make you discover the birthplace of Montreal with historic and archaeological remains and explore Château Ramezay Museum which was built around the years 1700 and comprises many artefacts concerning Quebec and Montreal history. Finally, do not miss the Notre-Dame Basilica which is an important part of the religious heritage and one of the most renowned churches of Gothic Revival style in the world.

These activities are just some of the things you can do during your stay in Montreal. Spring season will be a perfect time to enjoy the numerous festivals in the street of the city, to have fun with your family at La Ronde or to take the sun at Île Notre-Dame. So, do not wait any longer. Montreal awaits you!
