Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History
Pointe-à-Callière
The Montreal from the Past, Present and Future
Birthplace of Montreal, Pointe-à-Callière is built on top of remains that testify of more than 1000 years of history. Among other things, the Museum offers visitors to walk through an authentic archaeological path encompassing advanced technologies and a multimedia show projected directly on the remains. The Museum examines as much the First Nations’ history as the present-day Montreal. You will have the chance to discover Montreal’s First Catholic Cemetery, the first market place as well as numerous Amerindian artifacts.
The Museum also offers a constantly renewed program of temporary exhibits and cultural activities such as A Cultural Feast and the 18th-century Public Market. A whole new exhibition this spring will give visitors the chance to live the life of a 17th century adventurer of the sea with the exhibition Pirates, Privateers and Freebooters. You will be able to learn a lot more about the everyday life of pirates and piracy of that time with the help of objects (old maps, sundial, model ships, sea chests, coins, etc.) and amusing features. The exhibition starts on May 20, 2009.
