An Exceptional Showcase of our Cinema!
Located close to the Berri-UQAM metro station in Montreal at the corner of Saint-Denis Street and Maisonneuve Boulevard, the Cinerobotheque of the National Film Board of Canada offers you a unique cinema experience allowing you to view 9500 titles of the NFB collection. Your experience will be unique in the sense that you will be able to listen to the film or documentary of your choice on your own seat and with your own screen!
Cinema on Demand
The viewing is made through a touch screen attached to your seat where you will be able to see the numerous films available. And even though their number is impressive, the research of a specific film from your screen is easy since all films are clearly divided by categories. You can select by themes, year of production, directors, keywords and categories (animation, documentary, science fiction, etc.). The CineRobotheque staff is also there to help you go through the collection and even to make a few suggestions if you wish so. You will thus be able to find all genres of movies from cartoons to dramas to comedies.
The rates are $5,50 for adults and $3,50 for children, students and elders (2 hours of viewing) making the CineRobotheque a lot less expansive than a normal movie theatre. Furthermore, you will be able to enjoy a 15-minute free trial on your first visit to give you the chance to familiarize yourself with the device. It is unfortunately not possible to reserve your place since the CineRobotheque works on a first come, first served basis. You can however rent or even buy films if you prefer watching them at home.
A Cinema Programming Full of Exchange
CineRobotheque is also host to many activities linked with the world of cinema. Take part alone or with your family in the workshops on cinema production that will make you discover the steps of scripting, the techniques used to create movement or simply video making. Moreover, you will have the opportunity with Ciné-débats to participate in animated debates on current questions after the screening of NFB documentaries dealing with a hot topic. This type of activity is used as a starter for discussion and allows a unique exchange between film makers and member of the audience.
Furthermore, the CineRobotheque is host to fifteen or so cinema festivals each year including the World Film Festival, the International Festival of Films on Art, Les Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, Rencontres internationales du documentaire as well as Vues d’Afrique. These festivals allow once again visitors to live a unique cinema experience.
In short, a visit to the CineRobotheque is a great occasion to discover Quebec’s audiovisual culture as well as an opportunity to see cinema classics again. There is no doubt that you will discover many treasures of our rich film heritage.
Enjoy your screening!
