Roberval’s Village on Ice
Cabins on Ice
Would you be interested by a village of yesteryear entirely on ice? This is what Roberval’s Village on Ice will be about once again this winter as soon as Lake Saint-Jean’s waters get frozen. The idea of the village started around the year 2000 when local fishermen facing a poor fishing season decided to build some cabins on the frozen lake. What was supposed to be a temporary set up to welcome family and friends quickly became a lovely annual event. It is however Roberval’s 150th anniversary in 2005 which started this one-of-a-kind project for good. Today, this one-square-kilometre village is home to some 375 cabins each winter.
Settled every year from January to March in the bay of Pointe-Scott, Roberval’s Village on Ice offers a great programming of events. Added to a sculpture contest and fireworks, the main attractions remain two ice rinks (one of which is specially-made for kids), an ice ring for skaters as well as a ring for walkers. Both rings are one-kilometre long. For those of you without skates, you can rent a pair at all times on the site for free. Furthermore, heated public areas located close to the rings will warm you when necessary. Open every day from 8 a.m., the Village is lit up in the evening allowing the village to welcome visitors up until 10 p.m. So put on your warm clothes and join Frigolo, the Village’s mascot. He and all the cabins’ residents await you at Roberval’s Village on Ice!
