Saguenay Invites All Winter Lovers

Motoneige Saint-LaurentYear after year, the Saguenay region receives an exceptional amount of snowfall. It is thus not surprising to see a great number of tourists rushing to that area as soon as the first snowflakes drop from the sky. To highlight this coming winter season, Promotion Saguenay offers you a wide range of winter outings such as snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing. Ready for action?

Defy Winter

You will meet a great number of snowmobilers throughout the Saguenay region. This is not really surprising since the region holds more than 3000 km of way-marked trails and around 600 to 800 metres of snow per year! These trails are designed so that you can travel safely throughout most of the region’s highlights like Saguenay Fjord, Baie des Ha! Ha! and Mounts Valin. A dozen of shelters are available so that you can rest and sleep during your expedition. Do not forget to pay you access fee in order to travel freely in the trails.

Dog Master

Dog sledding gives you another chance for a great expedition. You can either ride your own sled or be helped by an experienced musher, you will be able to discover the Boreal forest like no one else. 4 companies suggest you different circuits of different length. For an expedition of a few days, you will have the opportunity to sleep in the heart of nature in a cottage (Les Chiens and Gîtes du Grand Nord) or in a trapper camp (Les Randonnées and cervidés Kanouk). Change of scenery guaranteed!

Igloo sur le SaguenayWinter Fishing

Bring your baits, hooks and fishing rod to catch fish right in the middle of winter. Close to 1700 small cabins settle every year on the ice of the Saguenay Fjord and Baie des Ha! Ha! allowing you to ice fish. To fully live this experience, rent a cabin in one of the main “villages” around the districts of La Baie, Rivière-Éternité, L’Anse-Saint-Jean or Saint-Fulgence. Who knows? You could be eating fresh redfish, cod or smelt for supper!

Down the Slopes!

Did you know that Saguenay gives you the possibility of skiing on some of the highest mountains in the region? With you ski or snowboard, go down the 175 to 450-metre slopes of Mont-Édouard and Valinouët. The more adventurous will be glad to ski in powder snow and admire the great nature setting. And for a complete day of family fun, try inner tube sliding.

And if you prefer calm outings in the forest, Promotion Saguenay offers you dozens of kilometres of snowshoe and cross-country trails. You will thus be able to explore the surroundings of the fjord, Mounts Valin and many national parks in the way-marked trails of the Saguenay region. All these activities and many more await you in the magnificent region of Saguenay. They are waiting for you!
