From July 13 to 25, 2010, the 24th edition of the Festival International Nuits d'Afrique will again be stirring things up in Montreal. This festival is the only one to offer, together in a single line-up, all types of world music of African descent, including music from Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. The 24th edition is a vital get-together, unique in North America, with the promise of emotion-filled gatherings and musical discoveries.
Since it was first created 24 years ago, the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique has been at the heart of the international world music scene. All the big names in music from Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America have presented shows for the first time in Montreal as part of the Festival. The talent of numerous local world music artists has also been brought out by the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique.
The festival can be discovered through several themed series, from the “Great Events” series to “The Stars of Nuits d’Afrique.” More than 500 artists from 40 countries will be performing as part of a rich and diversified program. Les Productions Nuits d’Afrique is innovating in this 24th edition and moving to the pinnacle of what’s new by presenting current trends in world music, with modern urban sounds presented by artists from a new generation. From tradition to modernity, all of the festival’s artists will offer a blend of genres and a great musical journey from the four corners of the world. In addition, the big trend this year, in the glow of the world music renewal, is the presence of women’s creations, bursting out in the programming.
The festival’s 24th edition will go on at Montreal venues including the Métropolis, the National, the Cabaret du Mile-End, the Club Balattou and, during four days of free outdoor festivities (July 22 to 25) at Place Émilie-Gamelin, in the heart of the city, where effervescence is at its peak.
