A Garden and Chapel Waiting to Be Discovered
Located in the chaplains’ old residence, Musée des Hospitalières de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal presents since 1992 the hospital and religious heritage of the Hospitallers of St. Joseph’s religious congregation. Besides the exhibitions, architecture and history enthusiasts discover each summer places rich in heritage which are normally not open to the general public. The visit of the monastery’s garden or the visit of Chapelle de la Maison mère des Religieuses Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph reveals an entire chapter of Montreal’s history linked to the care of the population’s body and soul. Visits are normally in French but an English tour can be arranged in advance.
Visits of Chapelle de la Maison mère: May 16, June 13, July 11 and 25, August 8 and 22, September 26, October 17. Schedule: 2:00 p.m. Price: $6
Visits of the monastery’s garden: May 23 (for the lilacs season), June 27, July 4 and 18, August 1st, 15 and 29, September 12 and 19. Schedule: 1:30 p.m. Price: $10
Activities start at the museum located at 201 Avenue des Pins Ouest, Montreal. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (514) 849-2919.
