Nestled in the heart of Quebec's Lanaudière region, the Musée d’art de Joliette (MAJ) is an international-calibre institution devoted to conserving, showcasing and distributing works of former and contemporary artists from Quebec, Canada and around the world. Now boasting almost 9,000 works, the MAJ collection offers a view of art history, while staying strongly rooted in the present. The museum's vision is evident in its expositions presented at MAJ which offer a unique experience. In addition to its three major annual programs, the MAJ conducts a variety of traveling exhibits and off-site expositions. The MAJ is dedicated to making art accessible, and as such, offers cultural and educational activities throughout the year to audiences of all ages. Thanks to these activities, and programs aiming to further develop the museum's clientele, the MAJ has become an important player in distributing visual arts in Quebec.
This summer's program at the Musée d’art de Joliette honours female artists with three new temporary exhibits paying tribute to them: Women Artists Gaining Space, 1900-1965, a works from the collection of the Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec; Feminine Plural: 16 artists from the MAJ collection, an exhibit offering an exclusive view of works from the MAJ collection; and the photography project Amalgat: Dance, tradition and other spritualities by Caroline Hayeur, an artist renowned for her installation art and large format photographic mosaics.
