The ‘‘Musée de la mémoire vivante’’ (Museum of Living Memory) uses various ways to keep a record of each and everyone’s recollections.
Located at the very site where the events of the novel ‘‘Les anciens Canadiens’’ by Philippe Aubert de Gaspé took place, the museum draws its inspiration from this 19th century author who, in his seigniorial manor, wrote about his contemporaries.
The aim of the museum is to collect life stories and histories. You would like to share an anecdote or reminisce about the past? Two studios are equipped to record your testimonials. The museum also features four thematic exhibits that are meant to revive your memories. At the site, you can see where the foundations of the second seigniorial manor stood, peruse educational panels depicting the site’s history, or climb up a promontory for a stunning view over the St. Lawrence. In summer, visit a bakehouse built around 1764 and a 19th century root cellar.
