The Pabos seigneury territory, aquired by the Lefbvre de Bellefeuille family in 1729, extends from Newport to Grand River but only the Grand Pabos Bay are was inhabited during the french regime.
It was the ideal place to build a fishing trading post because the bay served as a natural harbor for the boats while the marsh lends itself well to the drying of the cod. The only permanent fishing installation on the gaspesian coast flourioshed annd more than twho hundred inhabitants lived there. Unforttunately, the lords of Pabos’ ambition ends abruptly when the english army burns down all the installations and buildings in Pabos and Grand-River in 1758.
Today, the historical and archaeological site offers a tour of our interpretation center with a modern look which allows us to relive the daily labours of our ancestors from the collected remain during the xcavation campaigns.
