This summer, a visit to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will be a musical experience!
The first major Canadian retrospective on jazz musician Miles Davis will be on view at the Museum until August 29. The exhibition “We Want Miles”: Miles Davis vs. Jazz examines the artist’s life and career by bringing together numerous objects and documents, many of which are being presented for the first time: previously unscreened or rare film footage, handwritten scores, musical instruments, records, costumes and photographs taken by the big names in photography, along with works of art by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mati Klarwein and Niki de Saint Phalle, among others. In addition, listening stations will enable visitors to discover Davis’s iconic works, and several of his major concerts, including the one given at the Festival International de jazz de Montréal in 1985, will be projected on a giant screen.
Also on view: Inspiria, featuring a collection of magnificent necklaces in precious stones inspired by Cirque du Soleil shows and created by the great Parisian jeweller Boucheron, works by contemporary Quebec artists Pierre Dorion and Martin Beauregard, and the treasures of the Museum’s permanent collection, which spans the history of art, from Antiquity to today.
