A Season which is Taking Over
After a winter that left us with record snowfalls and a spring which took time to melt it all, summer is finally on its way with its warm sunrays. Birds are chirping, multicoloured flowers are brightening up the flowerbeds and leaves are making us forget that they were only buds just a few weeks ago.
Pools are already full of water in order to greet little or not so little swimmers and parks are more and more busy. Swings are going higher and higher, pushed by kids who always want another go. Finally, we take the occasion to open the house windows, smell fresh air and hang up clothes on the line so they can dry with a scent of summer. Everything is kind of getting back to normal in the end!
On the Terrace
Summer is also the season of heatwaves which effects can still be lessened by air conditioning, a fan or simply a movie theatre. Otherwise, to quench your thirst and to cool yourself, go sip a fresh drink on one of the many terraces which are flourishing during summer season. You will certainly find the most trendy cocktails or drinks. Ice cream kiosks are also very busy at that time. You will find a great selection of traditional ice cream, gelato, sorbet, and of course, sundaes. Choices are almost limitless.
In the Parks
Make the most of the nice weather and go for a walk. The many parks in the city are often embellished by a wide variety of seasonal flowers. The park benches and even sometimes picnic tables will allow you to take a well-deserved break or have a quiet lunch. Amusement parks and agricultural shows will bring happiness in the heart of thrill-seekers. Fairground attractions and skill games will always make you wish for more. Finally, it’s important to not forget the always popular aqua parks. They are a true paradise for those who seek to play in the water, waves and cascades. Paddling pools are also set up for babies.
On the Road
The summer season is the perfect time to explore the many panoramic roads around the province. First of all, the kilometres of the Route Verte, which go through the province, offers to cyclists, roller skaters and even hikers a great opportunity to wander around for weeks while observing the flora and fauna of Quebec. On board of your preferred mean of transport on wheel, take the Route des Baleines (Whale Trail) which will make you travel from Manicouagan to Duplessis. Although you could easily catch some marine mammals on the way, don’t hesitate to treat yourself with a cruise on the St.Lawrence River in order to see them even closer. In the Quebec City region, the Route de la Nouvelle-France will help you discover beautiful ancestral homes while the Route du Fjord in Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean, will display its vast steep landscapes.
Everywhere
Whether it is with a book in a hammock or at the beach, in an inner tube pulled by a boat, on a sailboard flying with the wind or on one of the many lakes in Quebec trying to catch some fish, the opportunities to enjoy the sunny days ahead are numerous. If you add the meetings on terraces, the outdoor picnics and the hike on the many routes of the province, you will have a summer full of excitement. And be sure that whatever you do this summer, you must try to make the most out of the season.
