Lanaudière and Mauricie: the sharing of a border

Even if they are not real twins, the regions of Lanaudière and Mauricie have loads in common. It is for that reason that we have decided to join those two regions for the new edition of fall in Quebec. However, despite their many similarities, each region offers unique products, landscapes and events. Without further delay, let’s discover Lanaudière and Mauricie where nature is the true master.

False twins

Domaine de l'Ile RondeSimilar but far from identical, our two featured regions share an access to the St. Lawrence River. Numerous seigniories were built there in the 17th century thanks to this easy access to the river. The fertile lands were bringing many peasants and farmers. Little by little, newly occupied lands were pushing Native people further north. But still today, the Algonquians culture is still very much present in Lanaudière and Mauricie thanks to the Attikameks living now in their reserves.

Those neighbouring regions also share large green areas ideal for agriculture but also perfect for outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Agrotourism is also becoming more and more popular and many events are linked to this type of tourism. While Lanaudière offers five tours centered on agrotourism, Mauricie takes advantage of its numerous crops of buckwheat to organise the Festival de la Galette de Sarrasin, a festival of buckwheat products. And since both regions have more than 100 companies in the agricultural domain, you have lots of choice when it comes to local products.

Mauricie’s features

Hydravions MauricieDid you know that 88% of Mauricie’s territory is made of forest and that another 11% is simply water? To make the most out of Mauricie’s nature, many options are offered to you. First of all, it seems worth to see this nature from the air! Hydravions Mauricie will be more than pleased to make it happen. The pilot will make you discover the many colours of fall from a totally different angle and could even bring you to the outfitters of your choice. As for camping and outdoor activities, Parc de la rivière Batiscan will make you enjoy the last bits of sunshine until the arrival of the first snowflakes of winter (open until October 19). And for a bit of adrenaline, put your driving skills to the ultimate challenge at Karting Trois-Rivières. On rainy days which can be quite common in fall, simply visit some fascinating museums like Musée québécois de culture populaire, where you will learn more about Quebec’s popular culture, or the historic site of the Old prison of Trois-Rivières.

In the heart of Lanaudière

Auberge du Lac TaureauNot so far away from the Montreal area, Lanaudière is a true paradise of green spaces around the Laurentian Heights. To fully enjoy the region, take up residence at Auberge du Lac Taureau, a comfortable inn where you will be able to enjoy activities like archery, canoeing and golf. As if it was not enough, you can also spend your day at the spa where professional massage therapists will be at your service. And if you wish to discover more about the agri-food industry in the region, just take the roads to the countryside and you will find plenty of local farmhouses. And since you will be already in the country, take some time to discover Domaine de l’Île Ronde, a vineyard opened until the end of October where you can taste some of their delicious wine products.

This is only a quick glance at all the things to do and see in Lanaudière and Mauricie in fall. Simply take some time during your stay in one of these regions to see parks and wildlife reserves, lakes and valleys, magnificent ancestral houses, but most of all, discover the great welcome of the locals. Have a great stay!
