From September to December
Fall in the province of Québec is often associated with unstable weather where sunny mornings can quickly change into a gloomy rainy or even snowy day. Nevertheless, some beautiful days are still on the program in September and October. And although November is often a very rainy month, it might be just the ideal time to do some work around the house. Mosquitoes are long gone, the sunrays are still powerful enough to warm you and the leaves are filling the air with their great aroma. You can also take this period to practise indoor sports, visit a museum, an aquarium and even an insectarium. In short, you can do what you did not want to do during the beautiful days of summer. Is this also your vision of fall?
Interlude
With some bit of luck we might have another Indian summer in October or November. After having to go through the first frozen days of the season, nothing would be better indeed than three days over 20oC on the thermometer, a clear sky and the warm effect of the sun. Before then, make the most out of the beautiful days and evenings ahead to do your favourite activities since the Indian summer is not far from being an annual event. Your bike or roller skates are probably not very far away! And how about free-fall parachuting or flying away on a hand glider?
Wilderness
For many, fall is just the perfect season for hunting and fishing. Luckily, Québec has loads of wildlife reserves, Zecs (controlled harvesting zones), outfitters and streams. You will therefore be able to hunt small game, white-tailed deer, black bear and caribou. In Québec, a game license is mandatory and you are allowed to hunt with a crossbow, a snare or a firearm. As for fishing, lakes and rivers are without a doubt full of fish throughout the province. However, some restrictions may apply according to your location and the type of fish you wish to catch. In general, you can easily fish until the end of October and even the start of November. Make the most of your stay in nature by exploring your surroundings and observe the beautiful fall scenery. If you have your ATV, go discover the many trails around you. And then, at the end of your day, why not light a fire around camp and grill your fresh fish or meat on it?
In Between
Fall is also synonym of multicoloured trees, pick-your-own system in orchards, harvesting and the annual collecting of the leaves. Your backyard needs to be prepared before the arrival of the first snowflakes. You can also use this period to protect your trees and hedges from the weight of snow and starving deer. In the gardens, the fields and the orchards, the late fruits and vegetables are picked and often transformed into jams or ketchups while the last haymaking is done until next spring. Once this is all finished, you can finally start to think about Christmas gifts since December 25 will come quicker than you think!
